You’re warmly invited to a sweet event, an afternoon tea in intimate surroundings on Sunday September the 14th at 2pm in the WEA Hall in Gloucester street, Ōtautahi. Sharing powerful and moving Palestinian poetry and the recently released written works of a couple of dear friends, two cousins currently in Gaza city, Yahya AlHamarna and Ahmed AlArabid. Along with pieces from Palestinian writers, such as Mahmoud Darwish, Mosab Abu Toha, Refaat AlAreer, Fadwa Tuqan, Annemarie Jacir to name a few. A diverse program of readings, with each piece around 5 to 6 minutes and no longer than 8 minutes, a short time will also be allocated for an open mic.
The event will run for approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours with two servings of tea or barista coffee and each table will have a delicious selection of savouries and tea cakes, with vegan and gluten free options.
Having communicated almost daily with Yahya and Ahmed since November 2023, and a strong desire to amplify voices from the ground, this event is being held to continue raising funds for them and their families, providing important means to their survival.
