About this Event
This monthly book club led by Doug is for those who like to read and discuss poetry. It celebrates the integral role of poets and poetry in life and literature. May’s selection is Wrong Norma, acclaimed poet Anne Carson’s first original work since Float (2016). Publisher Weekly says: "Carson’s genre-bending latest features the time-splicing mythology readers have come to expect of her fiercely intelligent, mordantly articulate mind."
We will meet in person at our store location at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple Ave. The book club is $18, which includes a copy of Wrong Norma to be picked up at Bookstore1 any time before our meeting.
About the book:
As with her most recent publications, Wrong Norma is a facsimile edition of the original hand-designed book, drawn and annotated by the author. Published here in a stunning edition with images created by Carson, several of the twenty-five startling poetic prose pieces have appeared in magazines and journals like The New Yorker and The Paris Review. As Carson writes: “Wrong Norma is a collection of writings about different things, like Joseph Conrad, Guantánamo, Flaubert, snow, poverty, Roget’s Thesaurus, my Dad, Saturday night. The pieces are not linked. That’s why I’ve called them ‘wrong.’”
Anne Carson is Canadian poet, essayist, and translator of Greek mythology.
