Phillip Howerton has taught English at colleges and universities in the Ozarks for more than twenty-five years. Golden Antelope Press published his first poetry collection, The History of Tree Roots, in 2015 and his second, Gods of Four Mile Creek, in 2023. His anthology, The Literature of the Ozarks, was published by University of Arkansas Press in February 2019, a project for which he received the 2019 Missouri Literary Award.
