Join us on September 15 for the first of two amazing poetry events this month. Alan Jefferies is joining us all the way from Macleay Island, Queensland.
Alan Jefferies is a poet and children’s author born in Brisbane and raised in Quandamooka Country, the Redlands. He started writing in High School
and publishing after moving to Sydney in the mid-seventies.
He's published six books of poetry — his most recent "in the same breath" (Flying Islands) was launched in Sydney in February 2022.
He currently resides on Macleay Island, where he is learning to strum the guitar.
What critics have said…
“The phenomena which is Alan Jefferies!”
LIVE poets at Don Bank
“…this is poetry that demands to be read aloud.”
Danny Huppatz (Southerly)
“Jefferies’ poems continue to evince a kind of spiritual, slightly mystical
openness or suggestibility in a language that is demotic, cool-ly neutral:
epiphany with no signs of struggle or effortfulness, no rhetorical
war-dance.”
Ken Bolton “Coalcliff Days”
“… should be nominated as Hong Kong’s Poet Laureate should the vacancy arise…”
David Wilson (South China Morning Post)
“ …his lyrics manage to dispel all consciousness of time through the loveliness of their perceptions”
Gary Catalano, Meanjin
“His virtue is elegantly spare, suggestive diction”
Judith Rodriguez (Hobo)
