Join Jenny for a two-part creative session on how to plan and put together a poetry collection.Award-winning poet Jenny Mitchell will facilitate a two-part creative session on how to plan and put together a poetry collection. Both sessions will be offered to the same group of 15 participants at the Barbican Library on the 20th January and the 17th February from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Participants will be given creative prompts and advice on how to write poems about freeing the creative process, and working consistently on a collection over a long period of time. They will be encouraged to share any work they’ve written in between each session.
Jenny Mitchell won the Gregory O’Donoghue Prize 2022 for a single poem, and the Poetry Book Awards 2021 for her second collection, Map of a Plantation , which is on the syllabus at Manchester Metropolitan University. The prize-winning debut collection, Her Lost Language, is One of 44 Poetry Books for 2019 (Poetry Wales), and her latest collection, Resurrection of a Black Man , contains three prize-winning poems and is featured on the US podcast Poetry Unbound. She’s won numerous competitions, is widely-published and has performed at the Houses of Parliament. Her latest publication is the shared pamphlet Family Name.
