Join us as we invite the Coventry Poet Laureate Emilie Lauren Jones, and Young Poet Laureate Hawwa Hussain, to share some favourite poems and celebrate a weekend of poetry ahead of the festival. With a library full of poetry books to choose from, this will be a chance to meet old favourites and discover new poems.

About the Speaker(s):
Emilie Lauren Jones is Coventry’s first and current Poet Laureate. She has featured on national radio, including performing alongside Simon Armitage on Radio 5Live. Emilie facilitates writing workshops for adults and young people. She also enjoys completing commissions and visiting community groups and schools across the country to share her love of words. Emilie was part of the 2020/21 Nine Arches Press ‘Dynamo’ scheme and the 2022/23 Room 204 programme with Writing West Midlands.
Hawwa Hussain, a student at Eden Girls’ Coventry, is the first Coventry Young Poet Laureate. She has been featured on local and national radio, including BBC 5Live. She performed in the Coventry Embraces performance, welcoming Little Amal to Coventry, and she has also performed in Nitin Sawhney’s Ghost in the Ruins. She has performed alongside Simon Armitage, Theresa Lola, and Roy MacFarlane, and is passionate about writing poetry with meaning.
