About this Event

REVERIE presents “Poet, Publisher, Translator: Polish Indie Publishing Now” a discussion between Maja Demska, Aleksandra Kamińska, and Monika Zaleska, who met through their collaborations with Rookie Magazine and have gone on to work together on the zine produced by , founded by Aleksandra Kamińska and Agata Wnuk. Maja Demska has recently published a book of poetry Udawanie Ludzi (Playacting People) with Girls and Queers to the Front’s new publishing venture, which Monika Zaleska is in the process of translating. They will discuss queer, feminist, independent publishing in Warsaw now.

Maja Demska–artist, curator, poet, tourist

Aleksandra Kamińska is a scholar, publisher, curator, and activist based in Warsaw. She is a co-founder of the Girls and Queers to the Front initiative (@girlsandqueerstothefront). Her research, curatorial, and artistic practices explore queer time, community-building, public feelings, girl as an identity category, life narratives, and feminist modes of production. She holds a PhD in cultural studies from the University of Warsaw. Her research and artistic work were supported by Fulbright, the National Science Center, and the City of Warsaw Artistic Scholarship.

Monika Zaleska is a writer, translator, and PhD candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center, working on a dissertation about the influence of Marcel Proust on the art and writing of Józef Czapski. She teaches Polish literature at Hunter College.

REVERIE is a monthly event series coordinated by students in the Department of Comparative Literature at The Graduate Center, CUNY. Inviting affiliated faculty and guest speakers from broad areas of interdisciplinary practices, REVERIE provides a platform for reflection and public discourse on poetry, innovative fiction, critical theory and philosophy, independent publishing, and translation.
