About this Event

There are few exercises that can get us into the oracular state as deeply as scrying - come learn a history and a technique for activating this ancient divination practice. Scrying comes from the Old English word descry meaning "to make out dimly" or "to reveal." Scrying is an auto-deepening trance practice traditionally achieved by staring into a smooth dark surface. During this session we’ll use sumi ink and will do some intuitive mark making after our gazing session.

aka Emerald is an interdisciplinary artist, intuitive, writer, and educator based in New York City. Eliza received a BA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from Central St. Martins in London. They are an initiate of orders belonging to Gnostic Christian and Hermetic traditions. Eliza has exhibited artwork internationally, most recently at the University of California Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz, CA), and the Feminist Center for Creative Work (Los Angeles, CA). Eliza has contributed writing to BOMB, Arthur, Contemporary Art Review LA, Momus, and Perfect Wave. Their book The Anatomy of the Aura was released by St. Martin’s Press in April 2020. Eliza is the founder of The Golden Dome School and currently teaches alchemy at Pratt Institute.
