2025 has been busy for Pocket Bandits, who released Nine by Pocket Bandits in January. Their release show at Liquid State Brewing Company featured guest appearances by luminaries from their local Ithaca music community, including members of Gunpoets, Fall Creek Brass Band, The Oxtet, and La Llorona, among others. Since then, they have performed at venues and colleges around the region, and had their song “Second Drink” featured on the Office Ladies podcast hosted by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey of NBC’s hit sitcom The Office (2005-2013). “We’re big Office fans and a bunch of our song titles are references to the show, so hearing Jenna and Angela play our song and talk about our band felt pretty cool,” says Massa.
Harry Nichols released his most recent solo album, Songs for the Rich and Beautiful, in October 2022; Massa, Lupowitz, and Goldman contributed guitar, keyboards, and vocals. Nichols also provides bass, vocals, and songwriting (again with Massa, Lupowitz and Goldman) to Ithaca-based “prog soul” band Noon Fifteen; Bjarning recently joined that ensemble on drums, making “Dead Skin” the first of many forthcoming collaborations between the five musicians. “With all five of us on the track, one could argue that ‘Dead Skin’ is a Noon Fifteen release,” says Lupowitz, “but I’d argue that a burrito and a taco can have the same ingredients, but aren’t the same food. Noon Fifteen is its own beast; this is pure Pocket Bandits with its synth bass and jazz-funk energy, with the added flavor of Harry’s vocal and lyrical contributions.”
