Plumas Negras by Juliette CarrilloDirected by Rebecca Frost Mayer
Set in East Salinas, California (also known as Alisal), this drama tells the story of three generations of women and their relationship to the land. In 1963, Concha pursues work in the lettuce fields to provide for the children she has left behind. Forty years later, we meet her daughter, Perla, and ten years following, her daughter, Aurora.
How do we continue generational cycles, and how do we break free from our mothers and grandmothers? How do we define women’s work? Who is putting food on our table? Plumas Negras examines these questions and tells a beautiful story about memory, growth, hope, and taking flight.
This bilingual production is presented in Spanish (with English subtitles) and English. Recommended for high school and adult audiences.
