Ploughshares into Swords? UNA London and South East Region Summer Council
Welcome to the UNA London and South East Region Summer Council, hosted by UNA Bexhill and Hastings! As thousands of innocent people are being killed daily in warfare around the world, and states are upgrading and increasing their military arsenals, we will explore how the UN can help reverse the world's present turning of ploughshares into swords. Professor Richard Sakwa of the University of Kent will lead us in considering how to reinstate the vision of turning swords into ploughshares, to save "future generations from the scourge of war". Lord David Hannay, former UK Permanent Representative to the UN and now Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the UN will guide us on how best to use the UN and UK structures to resolve international conflicts without violence.
Join us at the St. Peter’s Parish Community Centre, Bexhill for a day filled with presentations, discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities. We will build on the six-year work of UNA Bexhill and Hastings to create a Peace Policy Statement. This event promises to be engaging and insightful, bringing together like-minded individuals, passionate about global issues.
The event will also be available online (with registration), but, inevitably, the discussion and networking will be richer for those "in the room". If your financial circumstances make it difficult for you to afford the fare, please follow the instructions in the relevant article here to be considered for a grant.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with others who share your interests and drive for positive change. See you there!
