Plein air painting is the practice of painting outdoors, capturing the essence of a landscape or subject in natural light. The term comes from the French phrase plein air, which means "in the open air.”
Join artist Tom Murphy in exploring the Greenbelt and learning about creating art from what you see in nature.
Classes start indoors at rooms in the Clive Public Library. Participants will work on shading with drawing pencils while observing still life and spotlights. This will help to understand sunlight and its directional light for later painting outdoors. We will also learning more about the materials required for class.
Participants will be required to bring the following:
- 3/4" masking tape
- Master Touch water color Paper Pad
- Eraser
Later, Tom will recommend art materials such as watercolors. Then later acrylics and oil paints.
