In this summer session of four painting classes on Fridays at the Retreat Farm, you'll have the opportunity to paint historic buildings, farm animals, beautiful wooded landscapes and classic VT vistas. Learn how to apply the fundamental concepts and techniques of plein air painting with Mary Giammarino. You will choose your subject by squinting to see the large mass, the “value” and its design graphically. Working with the mass, or spots of color, one next to the other, students will study color, atmosphere, and composition without getting caught up in the literalness of the subject or its details.
Working quickly will train you to keep pace with the ever-changing landscape, to trust your instincts, and to be spontaneous. Working together, the group will create paintings that are honest and fresh.
