Free Entry!Inspired by the world-renowned BBC Promenade Concerts, Playground Proms were developed during the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions. Mindful that staying safe doesn’t necessarily need to mean missing out, Playground Proms take music workshops directly to schools for performance outdoors or in the school hall.
Playground Proms comprise an hour’s workshop performance of varied classical music, including works from the BBC’s ’Ten Pieces’ and the DfE’s ‘Model Music Curriculum’. For all workshops, we provide online resource packs for both teachers and students, including information about the music being performed, further listening suggestions and warm-up exercises to get Prommers in the mood before the Playground Proms visit. Children are also treated to a Dalcroze Eurythmics music-and-movement session and have the opportunity to take part in our ‘Lyric Challenge’ – writing a second verse to our specially composed anthem ‘A Song for Our Planet’.
For many years, partners Graffiti Classics’ have been presenting interactive workshops, enabling children to enjoy and develop their own musicality with flair, finesse and frivolity. Graffiti Classics’ educational shows make classical music fun for youngsters with its scintillating slapstick, brilliant arrangements and mischievous humour.
Please note: This will take place in East Point Pavilion’s garden. If weather conditions don’t allow, the performance will be moved inside the Pavilion.
