About this Event

Spooky season continues in November when Rogue Artists Ensemble presents a reading of a new gothic horror play-in-progress FAR WORSE THINGS, written by Chelsea Sutton and directed by Keiana Richàrd, at Culver City’s Julian Dixon Library Friday November 22 and Saturday November 23 at 7pm.

FAR WORSE THINGS follows two urban explorers (those who explore man-made ruins) on their last excursion documenting a forgotten, crumbling building in the middle of Hollywood that begins to come to life around them. Taking inspiration from classic Hollywood monsters, the play fuses science fiction and a haunted house story to excavate the human obsession with ruin and neglect, specifically exploring the ways Los Angeles glosses over, buries, or tears down its own history. The play asks why we abandon and erase some histories while we preserve and protect others, and how humans leave indelible marks on the environments they inhabit.

FAR WORSE THINGS was first developed in the first year of the Rogue Lab, an incubator for new work that breaks free of theatrical conventions and may include immersive experiences, interactive design, puppet plays, and genre-bending work.

FAR WORSE THINGS is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Rogue Artists Ensemble creates Hyper-theater: original, immersive, multi-dimensional experiences that celebrate the complexity and diversity of Los Angeles. Collaboration, Design, Inclusivity and Access are at the core of all our work. Rogue is the only company on the west coast dedicated to the creation of original theater spectacles with puppetry, mask and physical performance telling stories intended for adult audiences.
