The Platonic Academy of Melbourne invites you to our Spring Salon, "Baghdad's House of Wisdom and the contributions of non-Muslims philosophy," to be presented by Dr Muhammad Kamal, Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the University of Melbourne.The House of Wisdom, known also as the Grand Library of Baghdad, was a public library and academy established in late 8th century during the Islamic Golden Age. In this lecture, Dr Muhammad Kamal will introduce us to the massive translation project which took place at the House of Wisdom, which sought to translate important philosophical texts (most notably for us, that of Aristotle and Plato) into Arabic, and transfer them to the Islamic world.
