Lupen Crook first emerged in 2004 as a solo “anti-folk” style acoustic act in the Medway area, and has since generated a prolific catalogue of eclectic and genre-spanning projects.
Described both as a ‘dazzling virtuoso’ (NME), and ‘splendidly uncompromising’ (Clash Magazine), Lupen Crook has garnered a cultish reputation as both a musician and outsider artist. He made an an impact with NME and was included on NME: The Cool List 2005.
Alongside his prolific musical output, his surreal and evocative oil paintings have recently been exhibited at Saatchi Gallery, London, and in solo and group shows across Thanet, Kent.
Crook conjures a world that is at once as unpleasant and ugly as it is infused with magical and strangely uplifting observations.
Medway’s prancing Dada sensations, Grinners are a four piece riff heavy punk pop group with a sardonic mischievous bent. They have put on a series of locally legendary events. They have involved local artists, magicians, pretend priests and puppets.
Donut has received airplay on BBC Radio6 Music and the band recently did a live session for Marc Riley in Salford.
Lovejoy have gained a reputation for providing sophisticated indie music.
In the late nineties and early noughties, Lovejoy released a string of well received and now sought-after singles and albums, mostly on Santa Barbara’s Matinee Recordings, also playing shows in Scandinavia and Europe, as well as in the UK. They took an extended sabbatical from 2007, following the devastating loss of long-time friend, confidante and collaborator Keith Girdler (Blueboy), only returning to the studio in 2022.
The years have been kind to Dick Preece’s song writing sensibilities.
Lovejoy make a stunning return with their brilliant new album ‘…And It’s Love!’. Through eleven shimmering, lushly produced tracks, beautifully bound together by the central themes of love, loss and human connections, the album invites the listener to immerse themselves in Lovejoy’s world. A kind of concept album, the songs on ‘…And It’s Love!’ weave and meld together into a narrative soundscape of tender moments of love and loss that sound both reassuringly familiar and yet totally modern.
Oh and The Pastel Waves will play in some kind of capacity too.
