About this Event

Join local environmental artist, Donna Davis, for a free talk focusing on how art can act as a catalyst for ecological discussion. You will be able to view her experimental artworks developed during the Plant[s] matter: entangled relations project over the past few months and find out what's next for the project.

You will also learn how to mount a pressed plant specimen.

Plant[s] matter: entangled relations is an arts/science project by Donna Davis that seeks to explore relationships between plants and their environment, and plants with humans; in order to tell new stories about some of our Ipswich plant families with respect to our changing landscape and climate.

Throughout the Plant[s] matter project, donna will explore family history and physiological traits of plants across time and varied geo-locations, using specimens held in the Queensland Herbarium collection. This research will provide an intimate glimpse into the lives of some of our Ipswich plant family with respect to adaptive coping strategies that have evolved across a 200+ year timescale. Together, we aim to see what patterns or new learnings may reveal themselves and how these may work to inspire new artworks.

This is a free event, however please book a ticket.

This project is proudly supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund. The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between Queensland Government and Ipswich City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. This project is also supported by Queensland Herbarium and Biodiversity Science (QHBS), centre for research and information on Queensland ecosystems, plants and fungi.

Special thanks to Dr Melinda Laidlaw and Dr Melody Fabillo, Queensland Herbarium and Biodiversity Science, Department of Environment, Science and Innovation for hosting me during my residency; and to the Queens Park Environmental Education Centre for hosting this workshop.
