Join us for an exciting overnight trip to a beautiful property in Parattah. This property was once a plantation of invasive Radiata Pine, but over the last 20 years, the owners have been restoring it to native forest.
The difference between now and 20 years ago is incredible. From next to no native species of any kind, to 30+ species of woodland birds, heaps of native marsupials, a huge diversity of insects, and an established forest canopy. However, many of the understorey plants that typically make up the woodlands that once covered the Tasmanian midlands are still missing.
We will be planting 100 understorey plants amongst the native trees, as well as pulling out the occasional radiata pine or English broom that pops up.
It's also an exciting time at this property, as the neighbours have just removed the pine plantation surrounding their house, and plan to restore it to native forest as well!
Lunch and snacks will be provided! So let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
WHAT TO BRING:
Long pants, and a long sleeved shirt
Warm clothes
Sturdy shoes, such as sneakers or boots
Water bottle
Raincoat (Just in case!)
We will meet at the TUSA carpark at 8:30am and carpool from there. If it is easier for you and you live between Sandy Bay and Parattah let us know and we can pick you up on the way.
It takes a bit over an hour to drive to the property from Hobart.
We will return to Hobart by 5pm at the latest.
Make sure to specify if you have any dietary requirements!
