Kath Hopper Drive Planting DayThe site is a special one – it is a saltmarsh and classified both as a terrestrial Significant Ecological Area (SEA) and a Biodiversity Focus Area (BFA), and is contiguous with the Orewa Estuary, (a marine SEA). These classifications tell us that this site is deemed to be particularly ecologically important and warrants careful management, to protect the indigenous biodiversity present. We are excited to be planting 1000 plants including trees and grasses that will provide native habitat for at-risk species such as banded rail and fernbirds, as well as nursery habitat for native fish.
What to Bring: Bring your gardening gloves, and a spade if you have one. Gumboots are strongly recommended. Plus some water and snacks to keep you going.
The planting day runs from 10am to 4pm - you are very welcome to pop in for half an hour during this time, or come for the whole day - whatever works for you!
We look forward to seeing you there!
