This workshop will provide you with the toolset for preparing plant fibre so that you can create beautiful baskets at home. During this enjoyable, informal and practical moprning, you will listen, discuss, look, walk and make. You will be provided with the skills to identify, collect, dry, store and rehydrate natural materials for making baskets. The workshop starts with looking at and holding a range of baskets woven by our wonderful tutor, Jodie Goldring. Plant materials will be identified and discussed for their quality and choice. The group will walk through the Botanical Gardens to identify plants used in basketry so you will be able to find suitable materials from your own or a friend’s garden. We will not be able to gather materials on the walk, but diverse plant fibre will be available back in the Cottage to explore the process of making string. Jodie will share knowledge on how to collect, dry, store and rehydrate plant fibres for their use in basketry.
Jodie Goldring is a notorious gleaner, an Artist and Teacher who has a broad range of creative experiences to share.
