About this Event
Plant a Herbal Tea Garden Workshop
Event Location: Ne'ata'q The Food Forest at Bluenose Academy
Storm date: Sun Oct 13
Presented by Ne'ata'q Food Forest.
Imagine stepping outdoors for a moment to unwind. You brush your hand across the fragrant leaves and flowers in the garden, and breath in the therapeutic scents of mint, anise hyssop, lavendar, lemon balm, chamomile, and other herbs. Imagine taking a few leaves of your favourite plants to make your own cup of soothing tea.
This is the joy of a tea garden: an area filled with hardy, low maintenance plants that offer tactile, aromatic, visual, and health benefits for people and pollinators alike!
Join us to learn the simple steps to making and caring for a sensory herbal tea garden, and explore some of the species of plants one can include.
Then stay and help us build a herbal tea garden at Bluenose Academy - help us create a gift to staff, students and the community that will keep giving! We will fill the wooden raised beds near the side entrance with soil and composted material, then transplant herbs into the beds.
Donations of your extra perennial tea herb plants are welcome (such as mint, anise hyssop, lavendar, lemon balm, chamomile, and other herbs).
This is a hands-on workshop, in which you will learn-by-doing, working with fellow community members to raise our young little food forest! All ages and abilities welcome!
Physical challenge level: easy-medium
Family friendly: Yes. One or more volunteers will be on-site to lead primary-elementary aged children in outdoor active play. Please send us a note prior to the event with age(s) of child(ren) so our volunteers can prepare. Thanks!
Be prepared: This is a hands-on outdoor workshop. Dress for work and the weather: layers, protective work/hiking boots, work clothes and gloves.
Bring: Your favourite tools for gardening such as shovel or garden rake, if you have them. Your own drinking water/beverage; a snack will be provided.
