How to Balance Growth, Development, & Conservation: Planning with State Protected Species Data
Participants will learn how to use and interpret South Carolina National Heritage Program's (SCNHP) tools and datasets for the purpose of making species-conscious regulatory recommendations and decisions. Topics include species data (how is it used, data governance/existing laws, data collection/survery123), species conservation rankings, mapping occurrences, and interpreting data (examples, survey windows, sampling bias). Participants will also hear from the Office of Environmental Programs about the environmental review process - what this information means for participants' projects (Do I need to survey? What is a habitat assessment?). Participants are encouraged to bring a project from their municipality to talk through.
This training is approved for 2.5 APA AICP and SCPEAC credits.
