Planetary Sound Symphony
A Cosmic Octave Trance-Formance Gong Workshop
with Jens Zygar
Gong & Sound Pioneer since 1984
Join a 3-day intensive transformance training exploring sound as a living, relational, and performative force. This workshop offers a focused entry into contemporary sound music practice, integrating planetary-tuned instruments, embodied listening, and advanced ensemble resonance work.
The vision of Sound Music consciously reconnects with the ancient tradition of Greek Mystery Theatre, where performance was not primarily entertainment, but a shared experiential space — a place of orientation, integration, and renewal for both performers and audience. In this lineage, performance becomes a threshold experience: sound as an initiatory medium that opens perceptual, emotional, and collective transformation processes.
The training emphasizes practical performance skills. Participants work hands-on with planetary gongs, orbitals, singing bowls, percussion, flutes, drums, voice, and selected electronic tools. Through guided exercises, the workshop explores how sound shapes time, space, and collective coherence — whether in performance, rituals, ceremonies, or experimental stage work. In parallel, the course introduces the core principles of the Cosmic Octave — the system of natural ordering frequencies — as a strategic framework for creating authentic cosmological resonance spaces that support inspired and intuitive creativity in contemporary sound music.
Alongside embodied practice, the workshop introduces artistic and scientific perspectives that support the conscious design of set & setting, enabling participants to translate intuitive inspiration into clear, reliable performative structures. The concept of Trance-Formance describes this process: a focused state in which heightened perception, embodied presence, and performative clarity converge — allowing sound to act as a catalyst for transformation without reducing the work to a therapeutic format.
Jens Zygar works closely with each participant, supporting individual strengths, artistic identity, and performative direction. No previous musical training is required — curiosity, openness, and a genuine interest in sound are sufficient.
Jens Zygar is an internationally active sound musician, educator, and artistic researcher. In collaboration with physicist Hans Cousto, he contributed to the development of Planetary Gongs and co-founded the Star Sounds Orchestra, the first ensemble to consistently apply the principles of the Cosmic Octave in a concert context on international festival stages. His work bridges artistic research, performance practice, and sound-based education.
Participants leave with strengthened performative presence, refined ensemble skills, and a clear performance strategy that opens their work to the resonance of the living cosmos — enabling performances that are not only heard, but deeply experienced.
Program and Itinerary
Monday 16 March, 9:30–13:00 & 14:30–18:00
Day 1 – "Earth & Moon“ : Earth / Archaic & Magical Sounds & Rhythms
We will learn and connect with the archaic sound of the earth day in resonance with and magical vibrations and the frequencies of the moon.
Opening circle: motivations and expectations
Listening as a foundational skill: from noise to subtle resonance
The archaic sound: Earth day frequency and grounding practices
Instrumental practice: gongs, bowls, drums
Bioenergetics and embodiment
Intuitive intelligence, trance basics, altered states
Movement, breath, and sound
Partner / duo practice: dialogue, mirroring, holding space
Polarity in sound: Shiva & Shakti as creative tension
Goal of the Earth & Moon Day: to ground the body as a reliable performative instrument, sharpen relational responsiveness, build ensemble trust and learn how to enter and hold a shared performance field.
Tuesday 17 March, 9:30–13:00 & 14:30–18:00
Day 2 – Sun : The Mythical Sound of the Sun
Mythical Sound – Presence, Voice & Performance Identity
The Sun as energetic and mythic reference
Voice work: toning, chanting, overtone voice
Storytelling in sound: from myth to personal narrative
Core self-presentation as sound artist and facilitator
Resonating with an audience
Beginning the collective creative process for the Planetary Sound Symphony
Goal: to strengthen performative presence and vocal expression, clarify artistic identity, and develop the ability to resonate consciously with an audience as a sound performer.
Wednesday 18 March, 9:30–13:00 & 14:30–18:00
Day 3 –The Earth Year, the OM Mental Dimension / Cosmic Octave
Structure, Timing & Conscious Form
Deepening the Cosmic Octave as a performance framework
Tuning myths (432 / 434 / 440 Hz): orientation vs. absolutism
Purpose and function of intuitive mantras
Solo instruments within an ensemble: leading and supporting
Structured exercises for timing, dynamics, form
Rehearsing the Planetary Sound Symphony
Goal: to develop structural awareness, precise timing, and dynamic control, enabling performers to shape coherent form, navigate ensemble roles, and make conscious artistic decisions in performance.
Overall said:
This Cosmic Octave Trance-Formance Workshop with Jens Zygar is an invitation to move beyond technique and into resonance, where performance becomes a living dialogue with time, space, and sound. It offers a rare opportunity to experience music beyond musical programs, but as a relational process shaped by planetary rhythms and collective presence. Echoing the spirit of the ancient Mystery Plays, the workshop opens performance as a contemporary, integral space of personal transformation and embodied meaning. If you feel called to perform in deeper alignment with the living cosmos, this space is waiting for you.
“Cosmically tuned sound music is more than an aesthetic experiment; it is a training in resonance. By aligning sound with planetary rhythms, we recalibrate human perception and performance toward coherence, responsibility, and evolutionary maturity.” – Jens Zygar
