Authors Gail Offen and Jon Milan will be coming to the bookshop from 1:00-3:00 to sign their perfectly giftable book, Classic Michigan Food and Drinks: The Stories Behind the Brands! Think Jiffy, Kellogg's, Vernors, and more!Gail Offen and Jon Milan are always curious to see, eat, and write about what makes Michigan unique. They give lively presentations about Michigan history and culture, and have written four books together. This book on Michigan food and drink brands is their favorite--but they ate waaaay too much fudge writing it.

Plaid Friday was initially organized in Oakland, Calif., in 2009. Back then, Plaid Friday, which takes place on the day after Thanksgiving, was intended to serve as a more laid-back alternative to Black Friday, a day that’s become as notorious for incidents threatening public safety as it has for great deals. Plaid Friday efforts promote locally owned small businesses and encourage residents to patronize these establishments as they begin their holiday shopping. Since 2009, Plaid Friday has caught on outside of Oakland, and many communities now embrace it.
