We are turning back the clock several decades and looking at digital art used in early video game making, 8-bit/Pixel Art! While modern technologies allow for larger graphics, we will explore the limitations of the tiny and humble pixel and the clever use of space, shape, and color. Using the free website www.photopea.com, there will be a demo on the tools (which are similar to Adobe Photoshop so transferable skills if participants wish to use Photoshop in the future), and we will practice on graphing paper and other physical analogues before diving into our computers. Laptops will be provided by the library. In the end, we will create ourselves as an 8-bit character.
This program is for ages 11-18. If a young participant is not comfortable navigating a computer or a lengthy sitting session, caretakers are expected to stay in the room to assist their young person. This is a time-intensive project and patience is heavily emphasized.
