Join Jeremy and Angie from Discover the Burgh and our friends at L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery School for a unique opportunity to celebrate the season with a guided urban hike on December 11th, 2024!
Join us for an evening hike in Downtown Pittsburgh as the city comes to life with the magic of the holiday season. During this three-to-four-mile stroll through the city lights, you will take in the holiday displays like the Pittsburgh Creche, the City-County Building, the Holiday Market in Market Square, the Cultural District, and so much more.
Guides from L.L.Bean will share stories of the city and its fascinating holiday history on this 2 1/2 hour tour!
Age minimum: 8+. Minors must be accompanied by a participating adult.
About Our Guide
Judy Riegelnegg is an energetic educator with over 30 years of experience, spanning from grade school to college. Her passion for teaching is matched only by her love for the outdoors and water sports. For the past 19 years, Judy has called Pittsburgh home, where she enjoys exploring the local history and sharing her enthusiasm with others. She has worked as an Outdoor Discovery Guide for LL Bean for the last 9 1/2 years leading groups on yoga hikes, bike rides, kayaking, learning archery, and Spooky hikes to name just some of the activities.
With a curious spirit and a dedication to education, Judy continues to inspire students and colleagues alike and bringing as many people as she can into the outdoors.

Meeting Point
In front of the Heinz History Center entrance on the corner of 13th and Smallman. The Heinz History Center is located at 1212 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
The tour will conclude in the Cultural District and have an approximate 0.5 mile walk back to the Heinz History Center for guests who have parked nearby.
Parking
Paid parking lots are located next to the Heinz History Center. Prices are typically $8-$10 (event pricing may vary). Some lots require cash payment and do not accept credit card.
A city garage at the corner of Smithfield and Liberty is typically $8 night and weekend rates after 4pm and is located approximately 10 minutes from the starting point by foot.
Please plan to arrive at the meeting spot at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the tour. When traveling into the city, please account for downtown traffic and parking during rush hour.
Weather/Clothing Notes
This tour will operate in light weather but may be pushed to our makeup date if the weather forecast is poor.
Please come prepared with weather and activity-appropriate clothing—we recommend lots of layers to allow for more flexibility depending on weather! Make sure to wear activity-appropriate, closed-toed shoes, bring water for the hike, and cash if you are planning on making any purchases at the holiday market. Also make sure to bring any personal prescriptions, such as EpiPen or inhaler.
Cancelation Policy
Cancelations can be made up to one week (7 days) before the start of the tour for a refund less taxes and Eventbrite fees.
This tour requires a minimum of 15 participants and may be canceled by the organizers if the minimum is not met. Moving to the weather make-up date or canceling due to the weather will be decided by the morning of the tour.
We do not advise booking this tour if you require separate accommodation overnight in Pittsburgh due to possible weather delays/cancelations.
Liability Release
This tour is operated by L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery School. Participants will be required to sign a liability release provided by L.L.Bean to join the tour. You will receive an email link prior to the event to complete the waiver online ahead of time.
