About this Event

Pitch Like the Pros

Come join Rachel Garbus, an Atlanta magazine editor, and freelance journalist Lia Picard for an info-packed course on pitching like the pros. Emailing editors doesn't have to feel daunting! We'll help you identify pitch-worthy ideas and shape them into attention-grabbing pitches as well as share tips on how to shape relationships with editors.

Who's teaching the class:

, a former freelance writer, now deputy editor at Atlanta magazine and editor-in-chief at WUSSY Mag. Rachel, who receives dozens of pitches a day, will share what she looks for in a pitch and what gives her the ick. She'll also share tips on things editors love in their freelance writers, what to do when your editor is MIA, and other ups-and-downs of the biz.

, a journalist who writes about food, travel, design, and culture for national and local publications including the New York Times, Garden & Gun, Atlanta magazine, Travel + Leisure, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She'll share how she finds ideas, examples of pitches that have worked, and how she develops relationships with editors (even when they say no, and they say no a lot!).

Come ready to share ideas (we'll save time at the end to help you workshop them!) and ask plenty of questions. Bring a laptop or notebook to workshop ideas.

Breakfast from Flying Biscuit included in the ticket price.
