Born Alecia Beth Moore, Pink began her musical career around the age of 14 by performing in local Philadelphia clubs. During this time, she adopted her stage name "P!nk" from the character Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino's 1992 drama, Reservoir Dogs.

She draws from the experiences in her life as inspiration for her writing. The power ballad "Family Portrait" was written about the pain she was going through when her parents divorced. During her relationship with now-husband, Cary Hart, there were plenty of ups and downs that inspired Pink to create some of her most soul-quenching music.
