Pack 673 Pinewood Derby 2024 Rules Packet Please keep this packet near and dear. A downloadable version will be available on the Pack 673 website or on BAND soon.
Families are responsible for the contents of the car kit, one block, 4 nails, and 4 wheels. Should any item of the
kit be lost, replacement kits can be purchased at the scout store. There are no extra parts, nor should anyone
open another kit to replace lost items.
Extra kits for adults and siblings can be purchased from Pack 673 for the discounted price of $ .
Check with your Den Leader to see if you will be spending Den Time to work on your car.

Monday, 01/27/2025 is the Pack 673 Pinewood Derby
ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE
Following are the inspection points
1. The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.
2. The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
3. The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
4. The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
5. The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.
6. The car “Front” must have a clearance not greater than ¾ of an inch and all parts of the car must start behind
starting pin.
a. If the car is determined not to meet this requirement, judges will try to run the car backwards.
b. If running the car backwards, doesn’t meet this rule, the car will be disqualified.
7. The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired.
8. The wheels supplied with the kit must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may
remove the seam from the wheels. You must use BSA wheels, and they now come in cool colors!
9. The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated
10. Provided wood blocks have no front or back, however axles must be located in the provided grooves in the
blocks.
11. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited
12. The car must not ride on any type of springs.
13. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
14. No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot (unless glued so it won’t move), may be used.
15. Only dry lubricants such as graphite or powdered Teflon white lube will be allowed for lubricating the wheels.
Lubricants may not foul the track.
16. Only one lubrication is allowed before the beginning of the first race and then once again before the beginning of
the first race of the semi-finals and finals.
17. Details such as the steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible as long as these
details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and weight specifications
Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed
to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these
specifications.
All cars must be checked in and inspected by the Friday before Race Day. Race Day is Monday, 01/27/2025
