About this Event
Ease into your week, and enjoy some pinot (or your favorite drink) while you make pinch pots! In this workshop students will learn how to construct dynamic forms using a simple form of hand-made pottery produced from ancient times to the present. You'll also learn how to add fun textures and patterns into their work, as well as create compelling contrast using underglaze washes. Prior experience with clay is not required.
All clay and tools will be provided. Bring your own wine, glasses, and snacks if you would like!

Bio: Sarah Stobbe is a visual artist from Memphis, Tennessee. Recently graduated in May 2023 with her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Memphis. "I make because I’m making it make sense. That ‘it’ takes many forms in my work including identity, mortality, and productivity, but it can ultimately be understood as existence. My work serves as a form of auto-ethnography: systematically analyzing personal experience in order to understand cultural experience. Making, for me, serves as the way of literally attempting to create understandings that are missing from myself. One could say, I currently make about making. In choosing to be an artist as an occupation, I must literally and metaphorically make a living, make a life, further complicating my relationship between work and myself.
Currently, I am in my gap year before continuing on towards an MFA. I’ve really enjoyed the transition from student to teacher, getting to share my love and knowledge of this material with all ages!"
