We are pleased to invite you to an evening talk by the distinguished author and researcher Dr Nick Mayhew-Smith, exploring the sacred heritage of Gloucestershire. This event will be held at St Andrews United Reformed Church, which is currently undergoing restoration work, a project GHCT have been privileged to support.Dr Mayhew-Smith will speak about Gloucestershire’s many Pilgrim Places, including churches of all sizes and periods, as well as ancient ruins, holy wells, earthworks, and sacred trees. These locations reflect the spiritual depth and historical character of our county, offering moments of reflection and connection for today’s pilgrims through both natural beauty and silence.
An established authority on sacred landscapes and Christian spirituality, Dr Mayhew-Smith is the author of several acclaimed books, including Britain’s Holiest Places, which was adapted into a BBC television series. His research focuses on early Celtic and Anglo-Saxon expressions of faith and the deep relationship between Christianity and the natural world. His more recent works include The Naked Hermit, Britain’s Pilgrim Places (written with the British Pilgrimage Trust), and Landscape Liturgies, a collection of prayers and rituals rooted in centuries of Christian tradition.
Currently Principal of Whitelands College at Roehampton University, Dr Mayhew-Smith continues to write and speak on matters of spirituality, heritage, and the environment.
Doors open at 6:30pm for a drinks reception and book signing. The talk will begin promptly at 7:00pm.
