Early Fall is the prime time to hike a 14er! This year, join your Manic friends on a lengthy, rewarding hike up Barr Trail to the summit of Pikes Peak, in Manitou Springs. We'll begin at 5am, and most likely reach the Summit around 12pm. From there you can take the railroad back down, or for a longer day, can rally back down Barr Trail for a total of around 22 miles. (11 miles up, 11 miles down).Pikes Peak is a NON-technical hike, but it is fairly lengthy, so proper clothing, shoes, and adequate food/water for the day are a must.
We'll be sure to practice the buddy system as well, so that nobody ends up hiking alone. In years past many of us begin together, but as the hike goes on the group often splits up into various groups of varying speeds. Regardless, that time of year the weather is often of less concern than it is during Summer time when thunderstorms are prevalent. So with a 5am start, time to completion shouldn't be an issue.
We'll have a brief info meeting on the evening of Sunday, Sept 22nd at Manic Training at 5pm.
All Manic members are welcome to attend, as well as any other family and friends that want to join.
**This is NOT a guided hike, but simply a group outing with a great community. Your safety and preparation is your responsibility.
