About this Event
The transition from incarceration back into society can be an immensely challenging and overwhelming experience, not just for the returning citizen, but for their family and support system as well. This special event aims to provide a safe space for open dialogue, education, and healing around the unique mental health needs that arise during the reentry process.
Returning citizens will have the opportunity to learn coping strategies for managing anxiety, depression, PICS and other mental health issues that can surface after release. Loved ones will gain insights into how to best support their family member while also caring for their own mental wellbeing during this adjustment period. Attendees will gain valuable insights from former prisoners on life before, during, and after incarceration.
The event will feature a panel of formerly incarcerated speakers who will courageously share their personal mental health journeys through reentry. Mental health professionals will provide guidance on available local resources and methods for prioritizing mental wellness as a family unit. We have experts that will teach practical mindfulness, communication, and emotional regulation techniques.
This is an invaluable opportunity to destigmatize conversations around mental health, build connections with others on similar paths, and gather tools for fostering resilience. All returning citizens, families, friends, and community members impacted by the reentry experience are welcome to join this affirming environment of support.
