With rising costs on all fronts, more and more of us are feeling the impact on our ability to feed ourselves nutritious meals. Blueberryjams has been experimenting with food preservation and various ways of “making it last” for over fifteen years. Join us for an afternoon of diving hands-on into two key preparations: herbal sauerkraut, a longstanding go-to, and pickled eggs, a delicious and practical addition to our food stretching skills.
In this workshop, we’ll dive into two methods of food preservation, quick pickling and lacto-fermentation, and discuss ways to boost their nutritious and healing properties through a kitchen herbalism approach. We’ll also chat about additional ways to make the most of the ingredients we will be working with.
Organic eggs, vegetables, and herbs will be lovingly sourced from Ferme les champs qui chantent, a local worker-owned farm cooperative. Photos below are from the farm.
Herbal iced tea and lilac lemonade will be served.
Participants will take home 1 L of pickled organic free-range chicken eggs, 1 L of organic herbal sauerkraut, and a workshop zine/handout.
Please bring two 1 L wide mouth glass jars with lids.
