Sunday, Sept. 28 “Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet” is the theme of Georgia College & State University’s pian studio recital at 3 p.m. in Max Noah Recital Hall, on the third floor of Porter Hall. Students in Dr. Owen Lovell’s GCSU piano studio will perform several movements from Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s piano transcription of the ballet, Romeo and Juliet. Written in the 1930s, these pieces feature stylistic aspects which made the composer famous: playful dances, pounding and relentless rhythms, and romantic moments that evoke moments within original Shakespeare’s original tragic play, as well as its adaptation for orchestra and ballet dancers. This concert will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/GCMusicDepartment. A $5 donation is encouraged. Online donations can be made at give.gcsu.edu/g/department-of-music/. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GCSU Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc. For more information, please email [email protected] or call 478-445-8289.
