Zaira Castillo is a Chicago-based pianist whose artistry bridges classical tradition and contemporary experimentation. Equally devoted to performing and teaching, she is known for her imaginative programming and for creating performance experiences that expand the expressive possibilities of the piano. Her work spans contemporary classical music, electroacoustic performance, and interdisciplinary collaboration, exploring new ways for audiences and performers to engage with sound and space.
Recent career highlights include performing at New York City’s Time:Spans Festival with Ensemble Dal Niente, appearing in the interdisciplinary series Freedom From and Freedom To for dancers and musicians, and performing with her piano, clarinet, and cello trio "Wild "indigo" at the Thirsty Ears Classical Music Street Festival.
Zaira is also the founder and pianist of Duo Riso, a collaboration dedicated to new and experimental piano–clarinet repertoire. The duo recently appeared on the Frequency Series at Constellation Chicago, premiering works by composers across the city.
A passionate educator and Steinway Educational Partner, Zaira cultivates artistry and confidence in her students, many of whom have received recognition in competitions and ensemble performances. Guided by a belief in nurturing each student’s unique voice, she is committed to making music education both accessible and inspiring.
