About Daniel
Pianist Daniel Epstein gained international attention in 1973 as the first American to perform the Yellow River Concerto with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, just before their historic tour of China.
A graduate of the Juilliard School, where he studied with Adele Marcus, he was presented in his Carnegie Hall debut recital by the Concert Artists Guild. Winner of many awards and prizes, including the Kosciusczko Chopin Award, the National Arts Club Prize, and the Prix Alex de Vries in Paris, Epstein has appeared as guest soloist with major symphony orchestras including those of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, and Rochester. He has given recitals at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the 92nd Street Y, as well as in major cities throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia, complemented by master classes and intensive seminars for pianists.
Recent performances include two tours to China for recitals and master classes in the cities of Shanghai, Beijing, and Xian; performances and teaching at Intituto Musicale Vaccaj in Tolentino, Italy; solo and duo concerts at the Festival of the Canary Islands; and performances of both Brahms piano concerti in New York.
As the pianist and founding member of the famed Raphael Trio since 1975, Daniel Epstein has performed virtually the entire piano trio repertoire. He has collaborated with many renowned string quartets, including the Ying, American, Chiara, New Zealand, and Talich, as well as with the members of the Juilliard and Guarneri quartets and many other distinguished chamber musicians and soloists.
Daniel Epstein is a member of the piano faculties of Manhattan School of Music and Rutgers University and is the cofounder and director of the Raphael Trio Chamber Music Workshop in Wilton, New Hampshire.
About Master Classes
A master class is a special opportunity for students and guests to watch and learn from a guest teacher and expert in their area. Guests work with students as a group or one at a time in front of an audience. The guest can engage with students and audiences in a variety of ways, often providing feedback on how to improve their technique, expression, and interpretation.
Guests may also share stories about their experiences such as their career, learning a piece, working with a composer, demonstrating how to play certain passages, and point out common issues and ways to improve.
All spectators and students can benefit from observing a master class and learning master's teaching and listening to the different versions of the piece.
Master Classes are always free and open to the public to observe.
