Physical Conversations - A Contact Improv Series

Have you been at events or ecstatic dances and wondered who those people rolling, jumping and flipping over each other are? Maybe you're already a seasoned dancer but don't have opportunities locally to deep dive with other contact dancers? Either way, here is your opportunity to begin your journey and/or build upon the skills you already have.
For those who don't know - Contact Improvisation (CI) is a form of partner dance improvisation that leans heavily upon explorations of somatic and spatial attention and physics. To me, this form is a window into how we relate to the world. How do we respond to the unexpected? Can we pause and listen even if we are unstable? Can I share parts of myself as well as support parts of others? These are all questions that we will be asking ourselves through embodied inquiry!
Physical Conversations - A Contact Improv Series, consists of three day-long sessions, offering an opportunity to learn new skills and hone existing skills within this form.
Much like any verbal conversation, contact improvisation holds a balance of talking, listening, and moments of silence for the unknown or unspoken to emerge. In this workshop, participants will be offered tools for building their vocabulary and to listen on a physical level (Physical Conversations - *wink*wink).
This workshop will provide:
- Tools for improvisation
- Practices for building your somatic attention and capacity to sense yourself and those around you
- Floor work and rolling skills
- Jumping skills
- A space to train and practice dynamic weight sharing and lifting
- Practical tips on how to enter and exit a dance
- Body work into CI
- Trio work
- Exploring composition and ensemble work (expanding your contact dance to the entire space/group)
- A space to hone our capacity to talk and listen on a physical level
After this workshop, participants should feel that their capacity to express within this form has increased, along with their skill level.
Pricing:
$80 - $160 Per session (My ideal mid range rate would be $100)
