Continue the Halloween spirit with a photowalk in Blood Root Valley, part of Staten Island's Greenbelt.
Once known as the Valley of Dead Man's Creek, Blood Root Valley received its current name from the bloodroot plant cultivated by Native Americans and used for dyes, paints, medicine. The sprawling park includes woodlands, ravines, ridges and scenic overviews. Once inside, it's easy for one to forget they are still within the five boroughs.
Bring your camera and explore with AAH guide Kristen Bartley, who will share some of the history and haunted lore of the park and other parts of the Greenbelt. Kristen will also be sharing tips on how to manipulate Polaroid photographs. Participants that own a Polaroid are encouraged to bring theirs or rent one from the museum.*
*Participants wishing to rent a Polaroid camera and film for this walk, must do so in advance here.
**Walk will met at 11am at Blood Root Valley, specific location TBA. The area is accessible via public bus as well, more details to follow.
Accessibility note: Terrain is varied with hills, thick woodlands and wetlands. Hiking shoes and attire recommended.
