Photographers of Miami: Want to sharpen your focus and reframe your perspective?
Come expose your photographs at #PhotoTalk305, our collaborative space for constructive feedback, presented by #Photowalk305.
Each iteration features a guest speaker who will present a few selected works and share with us their creative process.
For this talk, our guest speaker is photographer Josh Aronson (@jda.usa), a Miami-based photographer whose work explores themes of identity, belonging, and the intersection of masculinity and the Southern landscape. Rooted in a staged, narrative approach, his process emphasizes collaboration with his subjects, weaving together their relationships and shared environments to craft evocative, tableau-like images. Aronson’s photographs challenge historical and cultural narratives, offering intimate and expansive portrayals that invite reflection on fragility, kinship, and connection.
The talk will be moderated by writer, artist, and Burnaway editor assistant Isabella "Isa" Marie García (@isamxrie). Interested in alternative educational spaces, holistic aftercare, and supporting visual artists in the American South in her creative and arts writing, she is an interdisciplinary lens-based artist that engages with traditional film and non-traditional photo-based processes—chemigrams and cyanotypes—along with papermaking and bookbinding. A recipient of the 2024 WOPHA Research Fellowship for "The Photography Care Matrix,” she is actively researching the nature and impact of teaching work by women and non-binary photographers within correctional facilities and institutions, residential treatment centers, and alternative schools. She currently works as the editorial assistant for Burnaway, an Atlanta-based non-profit magazine of contemporary art and criticism from the American South and the Caribbean.
Following the talk, photographers are then invited and encouraged to participate and present five (5) images to be evaluated by the guest speakers, by emerging and established photographers, and by members of the #Photowalk305 community.
