Photography is more than knowing how to work a camera — it’s about learning to see the world in a new way. In this two-session workshop, photographer and educator Antonio M. Rosario will guide participants to slow down and notice the details, light, and moments that make photographs compelling. Along the way, you’ll build visual literacy — the ability to better read, understand, and capture images in ways you may not have tried before.
The first session will be hands-on and practical, introducing simple techniques you can use right away with any camera — from smartphones and point-and-shoots to DSLRs. We’ll also build up our visual literacy by looking at and discussing great photographs, seeing what makes them work, and how those ideas can be applied to your own images. You’ll then choose a small personal photo project to work on during the week. Between sessions, Antonio will offer optional virtual office hours for extra feedback and to answer questions.
When we meet for the second session, participants will share a short selection of their images for group discussion. Together, we’ll look at what’s working, explore areas for improvement, and talk about ways to keep developing your photography after the workshop ends. This class is open to all skill levels — from absolute beginners to experienced photographers looking for fresh ideas.
Antonio M. Rosario is a photographer, podcaster and teacher who loves helping people see the world in new ways. A recent transplant from Brooklyn, New York to Lincoln, Nebraska, he’s taught photography to kids, teens, and adults in settings from public libraries to community arts organizations like BRIC Arts Media in Brooklyn. He believes the best photographs come from curiosity, close observation, and a willingness to look a little deeper — not from expensive equipment.
