アジアの視点から再考される「ファインアート・フォトグラフィ」Photographic Art Asia 2025展、東京・南青山にて開催
近年、写真表現は報道や記録の枠を超え、芸術としての在り方が再び注目されています。作家自身の視覚と言語を軸に構築される写真による創作は、あらためて「ファインアート・フォトグラフィ（美術写真）」という言葉で再定義されつつあります。その実践を継続的に行っているのが、日本を拠点とする創作グループ Photographic Art Asia（略称：PAA）です。
PAAは2011年以降、毎年１、２回のグループ展を開催しており、今回で１６回目を迎えます。2025年の展覧会は、9月30日（火）から10月5日（日）まで、東京・南青山のGallery 5610で開催され、10名のアーティストが参加します。多様な視点をもつ作家たちが、それぞれのテーマや技法を通じて、美術写真の可能性を探求します。
安齋英明は「砂」の痕跡を通して、見えない水の動き、時間の経緯、波動を表現、伊藤計一は俳句〈古池や〉から着想を得て、池水の存在や詩性を再構築します。荻嶋留美は静かな山の中での自然との心の対話を繊細に描き、春日広隆はアメリカ西部の風景を大判プリントで提示し、自然界の時の流れを描き出します。小嶋三樹は樹木の存在や宇宙のエネルギーをテーマとする創造性の高い作品に挑戦、角田直子は植物が織りなす光や形の美を澄んだ目で見つめて表現します。土居慶司はふと立ち止まった日常の風景から非日常性を見つめた不思議な美しさを放つ作品を展示します。Coju Hemmiは静けさの中に潜む気配や、音として顕在化する直前の情感を感じさせるようなランドスケープを描き、Wynn Whiteは被写体のフォルムを見つめ作者の心との関係性に焦点を当てます。
なお、今年3月にはPAAが初めて台湾で開催されたSKM PHOTOフォトフェアに招待され、台湾の写真作家たちと深い交流を行いました。フェア終了後、台湾から3名のアーティストがPAAに加入し、そのうちの一人である台北出身のERR-ik（許愷中）が本展に参加します。彼のシリーズ《42》は、映画やドラマから42秒間のシーンを抽出し、長時間露光によって記憶と時間の重なりを一枚の抽象写真へと凝縮する作品です。
本展では、各作家がそれぞれの視点と問題意識をもって、写真というメディアを通して問いかけを試みています。個人の凝視から詩的な構築へ、記録性から創造性への転換。美術写真の現在地を静かで力強く提示する、深い思索に満ちたグループ展となるでしょう。
Reframing Fine Art Photography from an Asian Perspective
Photographic Art Asia 2025 Annual Exhibition Opens in Tokyo
In an age where images are produced and consumed at an unprecedented speed, the concept of “fine art photography” calls for renewed reflection. Within this landscape, the Tokyo-based group Photographic Art Asia (PAA) continues to explore photography as a vehicle for personal language and contemporary expression. Since its founding, PAA has consistently examined how photography can move beyond documentation to become a form of art in its own right.
The 2025 annual exhibition will mark the group’s 16th presentation and is scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 5 at Gallery 5610 in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. The exhibition will feature ten participating artists, each investigating the potential of fine art photography through unique themes and approaches.
Among the participating artists, Hideaki Anzai expresses the ripples of the ocean and the power of waves in the traces of "sand". Keiichi Ito draws inspiration from the well-known haiku “Furu ike ya (Old Pond)” by Bashō, reimagining the poetic essence and existential presence of a still pond. Rumi Ogishima reflects on her personal dialogue with nature through tranquil mountain settings, while Hirotaka Kasuga presents large-format photographs of the American West, capturing the slow unfolding of time within vast natural landscapes. Miki Kojima explores cosmic energy and the presence of trees in highly imaginative compositions. Naoko Tsunoda gazes with her clear eyes at the beauty of the light and shapes created by plants. Keiji Doi offers works that transform quiet, everyday moments into scenes of extraordinary beauty. Coju Hemmi captures subtle emotional shifts just before they materialize as sound, evoking delicate sensations through serene landscapes. Wynn White centers his gaze on the interplay between the subject’s form and the emotional resonance it evokes in the viewer.
In March 2025, PAA made its debut appearance in Taiwan by participating in the SKM PHOTO art fair held at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi in Taipei. This encounter fostered rich exchanges with Taiwanese photographers, resulting in three artists from Taiwan joining the collective shortly after the fair. Among them, Taipei-based artist ERR-ik (Kai-Chung Xu) will present his work in the upcoming exhibition. His series “42” condenses 42-second scenes from films and television into abstract long-exposure photographs, offering a meditation on time and memory.
This exhibition brings together diverse visual vocabularies and conceptual inquiries, using photography as a tool for critical reflection and poetic exploration. From intimate observation to abstract construction, and from documentary impulses to imaginative creation, Photographic Art Asia 2025 offers a compelling snapshot of where fine art photography stands today - quiet yet forceful, deeply introspective, and rich in dialogue.
