We will be meeting outside for a photo walk and contest. Dress for humid Houston weather and prepare for anything. Make sure to bring a hat/sun gear, water, and bug spray. Just in case, we bring an umbrella (it’s equally useful for sun and rain ?)
Located on the western edge of Memorial Park, the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is a private non-profit educational facility that offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and the opportunity to experience the natural world.
And did I say contest? Yes, I did.
Bring your phone or camera to take pictures and videos, then post the best ones to Facebook and/or Instagram with the hashtags #HASNAPS, #HoustonArboretum, #SMBHOU, between July 9-14th.

Winners will be announced July 26th (see full details below). Winners will receive Individual Memberships to the Arboretum as prizes for the contest.
DETAILS
We will meet and greet starting at 8:30 am, with coffee provided by the Arboretum. Meet in the Courtyard between the Nature Center Building and Administration Building.
The Christine Mansfield, our host at the Arboretum, will give you some background information about the 155-acre urban nature sanctuary and how they are using social media to connect with their audience. (I thought this would be appropriate)
Then you will be able to walk through the preserve, take photos and learn more about native plants and animals right in the heart of Houston.

> The Arboretum’s 610 Entrance is right off of the 610 feeder going North before Woodway, park in that Parking loop for easy access to the Nature Center Building. If you park in the Woodway Entrance, follow signs for the McGovern Education Campus and Nature Center.
> The $5 parking fee can be paid via credit card at the parking meters or through the ParkHouston app, available for Apple or Android devices. There are two parking meters at each parking loop

Rules and Information
> Post your photos or videos in the main feed of your Instagram or Facebook profile between the dates of July 9 and July 14th, 2021.
> Include all 3 contest hashtags #HASNAPS, #HoustonArboretum and #SMBHOU in your Instagram or Facebook post.
> Set all posts to be able to be viewed by the public ? so we can find them.
> Photos in stories will NOT be considered for the contest; however, if you tag them with @houstonarboretum and @kamichat, we will share the best ones on our feeds. ?
> Photos will be judged by the sponsors between July 15-23, 2021.
> Winners will be notified no later than July 26th via Direct Message on the platform where you posted. We will request your email to send your prize. All decisions are final.
> Additionally, we will be awarding two honorable mentions. Prizes will be gift cards to Craft Creamery on Westheimer (@craftcreameryhtx) and Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette (@libertykitcheneats) at the River Oaks or Memorial location.
> By entering the contest, you agree that the Houston Arboretum and SMBHOU may use your photo in all of its online and offline promotional materials. When possible, attribution will be given.
