Drummer Scott Amendola, bassist Trevor Dunn, and woodwind player Phillip Greenlief have collective and individual histories that span three decades and many continents. Their approach to free improvisation is to explore the many genres of music they are known for, which spans rock, metal, funk, jazz, post-classical and film music.
Scott Amendola has collaborated with guitarist Nels Cline since the mid ‘90s, including as a member of The Nels Cline Singers along with Dunn. As a sideman, Amendola has performed and recorded with a vast, stylistically varied roster of artists, including Bill Frisell, John Zorn, Mike Patton, John Scofield, Cibo Matto, Wadada Leo Smith, Sex Mob, and Julian Priester. Trevor Dunn is a co-founding member of the confounding Mr. Bungle, and has performed and recorded with varied ensembles of John Zorn and with The Melvins. He leads various bands, from Trio Convulsant with Mary Halvorson and Ches Smith to the angular-pop/rock of Madlove. Evander Music founder and saxophonist Phillip Greenlief has performed and recorded with Wadada Leo Smith, Meredith Monk, Rashaun Mitchell and They Might Be Giants since his emergence on the west coast in the late 1970s, achieving acclaim for his collaborations with musicians and composers in the post-jazz continuum as well as new music innovators and virtuosic improvisers.
SWRM are a Providence, RI psych/synthrock duo featuring Alec K. Redfearn on synths/voice and Matt McLaren on drums. AKR and MM are also members of Alec K. Redfearn & The Eyesores, Barnacled and a slew of other bands.
