Join Becky Wilson and family for a tribute to her father, Phil Wilson, in his first-ever one-person exhibit featuring quirky and curious old-school medical illustrations. Phil worked in ink, graphite, color pencil, graphic design, and old-school photographic processes for many different researchers at the IU School of Medicine between 1961 and the late 1990s.
Phil, who sadly left us last December, was a chauffeur for the Indianapolis Fire Department from the early 1960s until he lost an eye in a wood shop accident in the mid-1970s. He also worked for the Departments of Pharmacology and Toxicology as a second job full-time job and later replaced his firefighter position with a stint driving a paddy wagon as a Marion County Deputy Sheriff to complete his time as a public servant to receive his full county pension.
Besides his busy professional life, he was a boater who brought a wooden cabin cruiser to Indiana from Florida up the Mississippi River, a builder of three large cabins in southern Indiana, and an all-around, can-do renaissance man. His legacy as an artist includes two more generations of artists, his daughter Becky Wilson and his grandchild Nilo Schoff, who will be honoring him with their own new work inspired by his medical pieces.
You will regret missing this.
Libations and Frivolity, for sure.
