Jordan Valley 45° ChapterSpringvale Rd. to Johnson Rd. – April 19, 2025
For this monthly hike, we will meet at the trail crossing on Johnson Rd. (628.5) at 9:30am. At 10:00 we will drive hikers to the start at Springvale Rd. (636.5). We should be on the trail before 10:30.
Plan extra time to find the meeting point.
For your GPS, use 4500 Johnson Rd., Petoskey, MI 49713. The trail crossing is a quarter mile north of this address on Johnson Rd. [45°18'54.3", -84°51'12.8"]
This hike will be about 8 miles north by trail. After the hike we will ferry drivers back to the start at Springvale Rd.

Hike Options:
Long Hike – Springvale Rd. (636.5) to Johnson Rd. (628.5) ~8.0 Miles
Shorter hike options (you park where you start):
• Springvale to Maxwell & Harmon Rds. (631.0) ~5.0 miles.
• Springvale to Welsh Rd. (632.5) ~ 4.0 Miles.
• Start at Johnson Rd. (628.5) and hike south to meet hikers coming north and then back to Johnson.
Come prepared for the weather. Don’t forget plenty of water and snacks for the trail. Bring your own snacks and pops.
This fantastic section of trail is hilly and runs the crest of the high ridge that runs north/south between I75 and 131 from south of Petoskey to Thumb Lake. Most of the trail is high and dry with lots of old growth sections. Near mile marker 634.0 is Cherry Valley Overlook. We will probably check that our, adding a half mile to the hike.
The Jordan Valley 45 Chapter trail runs from Starvation Lake Rd. near Mancelona to Kipp Rd. in Harbor Springs, about 79 miles of awesome valleys, hills and wooded trail. Monthly hikes are usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month. All are welcome.
