Petoskey Audubon member, Jamie Jacob, will share his experiences birding in Ecuador in November of 2023 and January 2024. Ecuador is a relatively small country, the size of Colorado, and has 20% of the bird diversity of the world. Hear from Jacob what makes Ecuador such a special place not only for seeing new birds but also to experience the people’s pride of their country.
Bird tourism is a big part of the economy in the areas Jacob visited. Over the past 20 years many families have prospered by opening up their homes offering hummingbird feeders and snacks. In addition, many eco lodges have sprung up as well to accommodate the growing interest in birds and other animals.
Petoskey Regional Audubon Society is a chapter of Michigan Audubon and is a group for people interested in birds and the outdoors of Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. PRAS is dedicated to creating a greater awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the inter-relatedness of all Michigan’s wild places and wildlife and the need for stewardship, with emphasis on our local region.
