Emerging from this hard and crusty winter, we herald the coming of spring while realizing that the onset of warmer weather won't necessarily be bringing an end to our various troubles. It’s a challenging time (!). Nevertheless, our hope is to persevere, keep going, keep “getting through”. The song we wil be singing expresses this resolve in a very plain speaking way. “I’m Gonna Get Through This World" was composed by the folk singer Woody Guthrie at a time when he was beginning to face the health crisis (Huntington’s chorea) that would come to dominate his life over the next two decades, until his death. The lyrics were discovered posthumously by his daughter Nora, then set to music by Lisa Gutkin (a “klezmer” musician, hence the song's Yiddish flavour).
This singing event will be taking place Friday, April 4th, at St. James United Church, 221 Romaine St. (at Aylmer). Doors open at 6:30, with the intention to start proceedings at 7:00. Entry is through the “side” door, off the parking lot. There is additional parking across the street, behind the Sacred Heart Catholic church, as well as street parking.
This event is the last in a series of 3 and supported by the Neighbourhood Grant of the United Way of Peterborough & District.
