Sam Grisman, raised in the vibrant musical environment of Mill Valley, California, grew up surrounded by acoustic music legends such as Doc Watson, Jerry Garcia, John Hartford, Mike Seeger, and Tony Rice. Inspired by these early experiences, he formed the Sam Grisman Project to honor the music that shaped him and to create a collective space where both performers and audiences can celebrate and explore the rich legacy of American acoustic music. The ensemble features a rotating cast of virtuoso musicians, including fiddlers, mandolinists, guitarists, and banjo players, who bring their own voices and creativity to every performance, often collaborating with legendary singer-songwriter Peter Rowan to continue the Old & In the Way tradition.Peter Rowan, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame inductee, has spent more than five decades shaping the sound of American roots music. From his early days with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys to pioneering projects like Old & In the Way, Rowan has fused bluegrass, folk, and world music while mentoring generations of artists. His collaborations with Sam Grisman Project bring the timeless music of Old & In the Way to new audiences, preserving its spirit while inspiring contemporary musicians, making every performance a celebration of tradition, innovation, and acoustic mastery.
